Happy! Happy! Happy!

Today, my eldest Grandson graduated in Engineering from Cedarville University in Ohio.  Next Friday, he will be getting married to his best girl. (that is you , Jesse)  I thought a lot about when his father,my eldest son,  graduated  from Oral Roberts University, and then from Regent University. He also married his best girl, (that is you, Jeanie).  My day has been filled with laughter and with tears. (the good kind).

I am thankful to the Lord Jesus Christ. I am Happy! Happy! Happy!

Green Things and an Egg

Baby green things, (kale, mustard greens, Swiss chard, gourmet greens) grown under  grow lights with an avocado and a chopped up hard boiled egg makes a great lunch. It works for me!

I Saw an Eagle

Yesterday, I saw a huge eagle. It was close to our place. It is special when I have an “eagle sighting day”.  Chickens live in flocks and scratch around on the ground. Eagles soar high and fly alone. I love eagles.

Bottles and Hay

Bob is bottle feeding several of the new lambs, our neighbor is coming over with another wagon load of hay, and it is not raining. I am thinking about baking bread. This is going to be a good day!

Chicken Soup

I want to be in the garden but I am not. Rain rules this week. The solution is to make a big pot of chicken soup and invite a few friends for lunch.

Twin Lambs — again

One more set of Polypay twins lambs was born this morning. (One ram and one ewe) That makes a total of 16 lambs so far.  Lambs can be picked up at Milk and Honey farm on or after June 15th. Both ewes and rams are available.  In addition, we have two yearling ewes for sale.  If interested, give me a call or e mail. Lamb photos are on the web site. www’milkandhoneyfarm.com I am so loving Spring!

Egg Salad

I had forgotten how good an old fashioned Egg Salad sandwich can be.  Hard boil a dozen eggs, add a can of tuna and chopped up dill pickles, celery, and onions. Season with mayonnaise, honey, vinegar, salt and black pepper.  My chickens are over achievers and the eggs are super abundant. This is one solution that is good, really good! I just made a batch for week end sandwiches. It makes for a quick lunch when I  work outside. ( Planting potatoes and onions this afternoon  and tomorrow)

Date Night

Last night was a “Date night” at Milk and Honey Farm. We went out to the barn and played with the lambs. We docked their tails, gave shots, and put in ear tags.  It was less than romantic! Sometimes our date night is a trip to Fleet Farm for supplies for the sheep, ie salt blocks. Other occasions, include Wal Mart  for dog food.

It is not always like this.  On some of our Date nights we go to the cities (Minneapolis/ St. Paul).  We enjoy dinner at our favorite Indian Restaurant.  I go shopping, while he waits patiently with his latest “techie thing” at Starbucks.  Occasional trips to the city help to balance out  date nights in the barn. You think?

Skunked

After over twenty years on the farm, it finally happened.  Our oldest and most experienced Great Pyrenees, Gracie, got skunked! It happened last night.  All the dogs were going crazy. Gracie was the only one to go through the electric fence after the skunk.  The rest of the pack stayed put. Of course Gracie won and saved the farm from the skunk.

The morning after, the handyman is repairing the fence and Gracie has been banished to the  pasture. She stinks.  I don’t think that I will be petting her for awhile.  The skunk was probably headed for the chicken house.  Good dog! Good dog! Good dog!

Moving Plants

Today, I will  move more plants from under the grow lights out to the Hoop House green house. I will visit the barn to check on the lambs and see if any more have arrived. I will walk one of the Great Pyrenees and the Poodle. I will gather the eggs from my over achieving chickens. The laundry will be finished and the house cleaned up from the week end.  Tonight, I will go to bed, tired and happy. It is a huge blessing to live in the country. I will never take it for granted. Smiling now.
