Huge Branches

Bob and the chain saw are busy cutting up the huge branches that blew down in last nights storm. Several of the branches nearly missed the front of our house. They landed on the electric fence and tore up the wires. Baron and Tesse (Great Pyrenees) stepped over the wires and went out for a […]

Old Skills

I have been thinking and praying about the current rise in food prices. One of the things that came to mind, was to renew “old skills”. For example, I used to make yogurt. It was non fat, organic, and tasted great. When my life got busier, it was easier to buy yogurt. So the Yogurt maker got put away. I used to make salad dressing. When my life got busier, it was easier to buy salad dressings. I used to sprout seeds like broccoli, alfalfa, and lentils. They would go on top of salads and in sandwiches.

When my life got busier, it was easier to buy sprouts to top the salads. I used to make mayonnaise. when my life got busier, it was easier to buy a jar of mayonnaise. Does this sound familiar? With the price of food going up every day, I need to renew my “old skills”. We grow a lot of what we eat. I bake our bread and cook from “scratch”. However, there are “”old skills” that I haven’t used in a long time. This has changed today! I am soaking seeds for sprouting. The yogurt maker is off the shelf, and I will have salad for lunch coated with my own dressing. I will save significant amounts of money on our grocery trips by renewing some “old skills”.

Bob will be happy about that.

Sea Hawks and Friendships

Our friend, who is a Sea Hawk, came for a visit and a pancake breakfast this morning. It was fun to catch up on all his ministry activities. He has a very obvious and strong call of God on his life. He is serving with the Sea Hawks at present. Check out the activities of the Sea Hawks at the Friendships website.

Tesse

Great Pyrs Tess is the daughter of Asher and Jesse. She loves snow! Tess is a full time front yard guardian, along with Baron. She is one of my “walking buddies”. We hike the trails at a local park and walk the road in front of the house. She is good on a lead. I walk her–she does NOT walk me. I usually take Jesse and Tesse together. Sometimes, Josie goes too. Tess has not had pups yet. We are planning some this Spring with our young male, Boaz, as the stud. Their puppies will be huge!

Goodness and Mercy

Contemplations “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” Psalm 23:6 Several years ago, we had twin lambs. I named them Goodness and Mercy. They followed me wherever I went.

Yesterday, I was privileged to officiate at the funeral service for my Mother-in-law. I used the text from Psalm 23. She was 85 years old and passed away last week. Her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandsons were with her. Bob and I stood by her bed side for most of the day. We had prayed before we arrived and her passing was gentle. Bob has lost his Mom and I lost a mother-in-law that I actually got along with. She will be missed. We planted a pine tree in a quiet spot of our farm. It is my personal memorial for her. We planted another pine tree to honor the memory of my friend, Scott Tegland. I would rather visit my little pine trees that have been planted to honor their memories than go to a cemetery.

Goodness and mercy have covered us at this time. Bob was surrounded with goodness and mercy as he played his guitar and sang “Amazing Grace” for his Mom. The presence of the Lord Jesus is very strong with us. We are grateful.
