Planting

The serious planting of heirloom seeds has begun. Bob has the new bulbs installed in the grow lights and is filling up trays of potting soil.  My kitchen has turned into a planting station. There are trays of soil on the floor, containers of seeds on the counters, watering cans, plant markers, and towels to sop up the mess.  The planted trays will be taken to the basement and  placed under the grow lights.

The perennial herbs that I planted several weeks ago are up. The  Mammoth Basils are poking up toward the grow lights. All the green things have sprouted and we will be picking our own lettuce for salad in a few weeks. This morning I started planting the tomatoes. (Brandy wine, Italian Paste, Amish paste,  Italian Beef Steak, grape, cherry, Roma, Delicious, etc. etc. ) We use lots of tomatoes and I always plant extra to sell.

Dinner tonight  is Spaghetti made with last years tomatoes, peppers, and herbs. (basil and oregano)  I will add some ground meat, mushrooms, and top it with home made Pesto.

My days are full of puppies and plants. I still can’t decide which I like best.
