Baking Squash,Shelling Beans, and Drying Herbs
It is a good thing that I like this stuff. It I didn’t, it would be a ton of work! The harvest of Butternut squash was huge. This results in hours of baking and freezing. The Pole beans are picked and dried. This results in watching old videos and shelling beans. The new Herb project of making tinctures and oils is underway. This results in cutting, hanging, and drying the rest of the herbs for processing as needed. The next couple of weeks will be busy! busy! busy! In the meantime, I am planning next year’s garden. This makes me Happy! Happy! Happy!

Learning About Herbs
I have been growing and cooking with Herbs for years. But now, my latest project is to learn how to make tinctures, oils, and salves out of the Herbs that grow here. My kitchen looks and smells like am apothecary.  Also on the “to do ” list are herbal vinegars. The table beside my favorite chair is piled high with Herb books. This ought to keep me busy all winter. Happy! Happy! Happy!

Great Pyrenees Puppies
Three of my Great Pyrenees pups are being picked up today to go to their new homes. I love to see the new owners meet their puppy for the first time. It is special. We took pictures of the pups last week end in the cart filled with pumpkins. Today, the pups go home and I am making pumpkin pies. Smiling now.

Elderberry syrup
I am having fun now. Just finished making a quart jar of Elderberry syrup that is said to be good to treat flu and colds. The Elderberry’s are from our own Elderberry bushes. I hope we will not need it, but it always helps to be prepared. Just saying!

I Will Not
I will not live in fear of the Ebola virus or of being beheaded!!! There is a lot going on designed to promote fear and panic. I will not fear and I will not panic. Jesus, the Christ, keeps me in perfect peace. He answers before I call. He is my Rock, my strength and my redeemer. I will not be afraid. This is a great way to live! It works for me!

Urgency
I have a real sense of urgency to finish my garden harvest.  As a result, the rest of the potatoes were dug up, and the Butternut squash were picked and the vines were fed to the sheep. Big clumps of oregano are hanging up to dry. The dehydrators are running full blast with green peppers and sage. A friend came over to pick the rest of the the ripe tomatoes and pull up the plants. My sheep like tomato vines too. The rabbits got some old cabbage plants. The chickens are out in the pasture helping the sheep eat vines. All the onions are dug and in buckets on the back porch. The houseplants have been moved inside and are lined up on the window sills. The weather will change soon. Snow is predicted for Friday night. All the outside chores are being done in double time.
I am grateful for the harvest and do not take it for granted. God is good!

Spiced Vinegar
My kitchen smells like Vinegar. Today, I am making Spiced vinegars. So far, there are jars of Garlic vinegar, Ginger Vinegar, Fennel Vinegar, and Chili Vinegar. They will have to “sit” for several weeks and then will be strained and poured into pretty bottles. I will use some and give away some.
Today, is is gray and raining. Today, I make Spiced Vinegar.

Radio
Yesterday, I was a guest speaker on a radio show. It was all about the garden harvest, preparing and storing the produce for the coming winter. The moderators asked questions and all I did was talk. Now that was fun, really fun!!
