Tomato Seeds

Heirloom tomato seeds have kept me busy all morning. Brandy-wine, Amish paste, and Roma’s are all in potting soil and under the grow lights in the basement. I am planting more seed than last year. Our local Health Food Store sells my tomato plants. Planting seeds helps keep me sane in Minnesota winters! The cold is intense!

Cold Weather Food

Homemade bean soup ( with four kinds of beans) and Jalapeno corn bread make a great cold weather meal. The other night, we had wind chills of minus 40 degrees. The hot soup and corn bread made it tolerable.  If the winter in Minnesota doesn’t kill you, it will make you stronger!

It is Written

I am reading Psalm 140 this morning.  It is interesting to know what the Lord says about evil schemes. He does not like them! The scripture teaches that the Lord will maintain the cause of the afflicted, the righteous shall give thanks, and the upright shall dwell in His presence. Check it out.  Just saying.

Coming Soon

We are expecting  pups in March and lambs in April. It is the season of new beginnings. Check out our Great Pyrenees Dogs page on the web site for information and photos. www.milkandhoneyfarm.com.  All the pups, born on Nov. 20th, have been sold. Sometimes, it is hard to see them driving out the driveway with their new owners. (sniff)  It gets almost too quiet around here.

However, March will come and more pups will be born. They will be housed in the barn kennel, next to the sheep pen. The lambs born in April will be raised next to the Pyr pups. I spend a lot of time in the barn in April. Baby chicks will arrive and kittens too. It is all good!

Winter

Winter is in full blast. Snow, ice, and high winds are fierce. No worries. I will plant more heirloom seeds today under the grow lights in the basement. Spring will come. My garden will bloom. Winter will only be a vague memory. The beauty of Spring will outlast the harshness of Winter. It always does.

Always

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Psalm 23:6

Baby Chicks

Every three years, I get to order a new supply of baby chicks from Cackle Hatchery.  I have decided on Araucana chicks. They lay eggs in a wide variety of colors, pale blue, dark blue, various shades of green , and a few light brown/pink ones. Collecting their eggs never gets boring.  Each hen will lay 200-280 eggs a year. The Araucana’s will be housed in the chicken house close to the green house.

In addition, I will order Barred Rock chicks. They will live in the old milk house next t o the barn. We converted it into a chicken house several years ago. The Barred Rock hens will lay 200-280 eggs a year.

We will say good by to the old Buff Orpington hens who will be recycled. They will live in the freezer!

Praying Now

A great way to pray for your kids, no matter how old they are.

Isa. 54:13 ” All your children will be taught by the Lord, and great will be the peace of your children.”

Peace is powerful.  Praying now.

Spreading

Thought I would spread around some good news today.  There is more than enough bad stuff being spread.  My good news is for all who will listen.

Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, The Holy One of Israel; “I am the Lord your God, who teaches you to profit; who leads you by the way you should go.” Isaiah 48:17

Now that’s the good stuff!
