Holding Steady

When he was in high school, my son became a bee keeper. One day, I went out to check his hive with him, and discovered something amazing.  My son was wearing his bee suit, hat and veil. A bee flew inside of the veil and crawled up his nose.  He never flinched. He continued to work. That bee crawled all over his face. It never strung him. He had “held steady”.

My son is now 50 years old. He has “held steady” all of his life.  He is amazing.  I am blessed to be his Mom.

Just Saying

Just saying, to anyone who will listen, I find this a valuable truth. It is a quote from C.S. Lewis.

“You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.”

The longer I live, the truer it becomes. It is a legacy that I leave to my sons.

Pyr Puppy Progress

Today, a beautiful, Badger marked female pup, is driving home with her new family. They live in Philadelphia, PA.  Some would say that Minnesota is a long way to drive for a puppy.  However, I have learned over the years of raising Great Pyrenees pups, that the folks who buy them love adventures. They are independent, strong, and hearty, just like the puppies.

It will be interesting to see who buys my all white puppies. We have a male and female available. I am hoping that someone will get “the set”. Their bright, white, fur makes them special, especially against the snow. For info check out the web site. www.milkandhoneyfarm.com

A Letter For My Son

Dear John,

“Let not mercy and truth forsake you; Bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart, and so find favor and high esteem in the sight of God and man.”  Proverbs 3:3,4,5

These are words to live by.

I love you,

Mom

Plans

A letter to my son from his Father—

Dear John,

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord,” plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future”.

Love,

God

The Best Time of My Day

The best time of day is early in the morning. It is dark outside, and silent in the house.  I am in my favorite chair with a blanket around my shoulders. The poodle is curled up at my feet, and a Great Pyrenees is watching me from across the room. My Bible is in my lap. I have been talking to God.

Psalm 46:1  God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

Square Foot Gardening 2013

While we plan on continuing our 10,000 square foot main garden this year, there will also be more of the square foot gardens going in.  For me, they are the easiest and most fun.  There are photos and basic “How to make it work” info on out web site.
The  Square Foot gardens on pedestals will grow our salad greens and an assortment of herbs and flowers. They are close to the back door and easy to get to.  The greens will include four or five varieties of heirloom lettuce, Swiss Chard, Collard greens, several varieties of Kale, and Mustard greens.  The herbs will include garlic chives, oregano, basil, Italian Parsley, sage and thyme. These are great to snip and mix with the salad greens. I will plant Marigolds in several of the square foot areas. They are pretty and host the pollinators.Bob will be building the new square foot boxes as soon as it warms up a little. These will go out to the garden area with the others, and be planted with a variety of vegetables. I plan on experimenting with some root crops in one of the boxes. Potatoes, carrots, beets, onions, and radishes. We will try to photograph the progress.  Our friend, Jon Frank, from International Ag Labs, is mixing up a new dirt blend for one of the boxes. We will be keeping records of what is planted and how well the veggies grow and taste.  It is always fun to try new stuff.  All our other square foot garden boxes contain our good black organic soil and compost. My Blogs will cover our garden activity. I hope to encourage other folks to plant this year.  It works for me.
