Respect

Respect is earned by accepting personal responsibility.  No responsibility, no respect. I think that our elected officials in Washington should get this!

Baby Bunnies

The Giant New Zealand baby bunnies have their eyes open and are “scooting” around in their nest. I like their little pink ears the best.  This is just one of the reasons that Spring is so delightful.  By next month, we will have our very own ” Farm Petting Zoo” with baby lambs and puppies.

First Harvest

My  kitchen smells sooooo good. I am cooking spaghetti sauce for dinner. It will be draped over Amish noodles and served with Pesto. The idea came from the herbs growing in the basement under grow lights. There are tiny leaves on my basil and oregano plants. I will pinch off the tops and mix then in the sauce.  Some lamb burger and red wine will be added to the garlic, onions, and tomatoes.

The basil and oregano leaves are the first harvest from the basement plants.  I think that some of the garlic chives are big enough to snip too.  I will sprinkle those on top.

Herbs are some of my FAVORITE things!!

Just Because

The fog is thick this morning. I can hardly make out the shape of the big red barn. Sometimes, the Lord is like that. Just because you can not see Him clearly, doesn’t mean He isn’t there.

More Seeds

I am planting more seeds.  Butternut squash, Sugar Dumpling squash, and Zucchini squash will go into the potting soil and placed under the grow lights.

By planting set outs, I harvest early and skip the bugs.  Usually, we have harvested our squash by the time the bad squash bugs arrive.  The same principle works for cucumbers too.  This just makes good sense.

I have begin planting flowers too. (Marigolds, Cosmos, Straw flowers.) Flats of flowers are expensive, even at stores like Wal Mart. It is easy to grow my own.   Saving money makes good sense too!

Roku

Bob bought a Roku device. Some of the movies are free, but Bob wanted the whole nine yards. He subscribed to Netflix. That is the “Mother-ship” for thousands of movies.  Last night, I started on the first of 114 episodes of “The Wonder Years”.   What  FUN!!

Lambs

Our lambs will be born in April. We plan on keeping four of the ewe lambs to add to our flock. The rest will be sold.  I have been thinking about names for the new babies. The first set of twins will be “Goodness and Mercy”. The second set will be “Grace and Glory”.

Giving names like this, is a reminder of  the Good Shepherd.

Lent

It is good to recall  favorite scriptures during Lent.  One of my most favorite is Psalm 107:20 “He sent His word and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.”

Baby Bunnys Have Arrived

Congrats to our new Mother Rabbit. She built a wonderful nest out of straw and soft rabbit fur. The babies arrived last night.  I do not know how many there are yet. We will not disturb her nest for a week or so. We raise Giant New Zealand rabbits and sell them through The Country Store in Howard Lake.

They make great pets and wonderful fertilizer for the plants. I make  “Bunny Poop Tea” in an old bucket. The poop goes in first and then is covered with water. I let it soak for several weeks, stirring occasionally.  The plants in the main garden love it. I water with the “tea” every couple of weeks.

I like my bunnies. They are soft and friendly and  quiet. Everything else around here makes noise. The turkeys” gobble”, the ro0sters” crow”, the sheep “baaaa” and the dogs” bark”. The Geese “honk”, Ducks “quack”, and the cats “meow”. Quiet is good.

Will Spring arrive any sooner if I start my Spring cleaning?  Maybe, I’ll begin by cleaning out closets and drawers.  They sure need it!
