Foodshelf
There are more and more new people signing up for groceries at our local food shelf. In addition to these, this morning there were six new families from a neighboring town requesting food. I am thinking this may be an indication of things to come. It would be good if more churches got involved with organizing a Food shelf program. Since we are church sponsored and supported, we have liberty to hand out Bibles and to pray with folks as they come in. We are not pushy with this, but are there if we are needed. I have had the opportunity to pray for a lot of people. Mostly, they request prayer for jobs. Many are out of work for the first time. Some have had their hours cut back and are struggling on reduced income. I have also been able to take in extra produce from my garden. Since most of the donated food is either packaged or canned, the fresh produce is very popular. It seems that the more I give away, the more that grows in my garden. Amazing grace.

Pickled Peppers
All the peppers have been picked. Now for the “pickling”. They will be hot and spicy and great on top of a pizza. I always make an extra batch for my son, John. He eats them with a fork right out of the jar. These peppers are serious HOT . The real deal. They are […]

Gathering Herbs
The weather guy says that we will have frost on Thursday. That means the last of the herb gathering is going on today. I picked bunches of basil, tied them up and hung them from the ceiling in the entry way. Next to the Basil, hangs the parsley, sage, dill, lemon verbena and lavender. The […]

New
Every day, I learn something new. Today, I learned that my poodle likes apple cores. I dropped a core while chopping my apple. He pounced and snarfed it. The same poodle likes raw cabbage leaves, so this shouldn’t be a huge surprise. How profound is that for a new learning experience?

Focus
I have to remind myself, over and over, to focus! There are so many things that need doing right now, I seem to be running in circles. The back porch is stacked with vegetables that Bob picked this week end. Everything needs to be processed and stored for the winter. Some will be canned, others […]

Big Trouble
I think our country is in Big Trouble! The question is what to believe coming out of Washington. The question is what to do in these times. I have answers for both these questions.
Joshua 15:24 – “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

The Last Batch
The last batch of tomato sauce is simmering on the stove. All four of my big pots are full and bubbling away. Hooray! There are still tomatoes in the garden, but a lot of them are green. I will let them get ripe and use them fresh. The next big project are the grapes. They […]
