The Beat Goes On–and On–and On

I am in my favorite chair–checking out all the new seed catalogs.  The inventory of my saved seeds is the next step–and then the new orders go in. The beat goes on and I love it!

Harvest

They only things left to do in the garden are to dig the rest of the potatoes and do some basic clean up.  I am ready to be done with it for this year. The harvest has been bountiful and is safely preserved for the fierce Minnesota winter. I will take time to rest now […]

Garden

The garden activities have slowed down. The kitchen is now my “headquarters.” I finished canning grape juice and have frozen gallons of tomato sauce.  Today, I will begin baking the Butternut squash for freezing. Maybe I can get to the apple sauce too. It feels like fall and I am ready to be finished with […]

He also brought in our […]

Cat Nip

I was being to wonder why I planted so much cat nip. The plants are big and bushy and going to seed, not pretty. This morning I knew. Settling on the tops of the flowering mints were three wild canaries. They were a delight to watch as they gobbled up the seeds. I believe they […]

Alaska melon

Fresh from the garden, the first Alaska melon of the season. Juicy, sweet, and super delicious, all describe my first bite. The Alaska melons ripen first, then the Israel melons. Last, but not least, will come the Sugar Baby Watermelons. What a great way to start a Monday. Yum! Yum! and double Yum Yum!

Plums

Our little plum tree is doing an outstanding job of providing us with big, fat, delicious plums. Plum jam is our favorite–on a hot biscuit right  from the oven. Life is good.
