Company coming

We have company coming in next week end from Texas.  We will have a good old time. Bob is looking forward to having some help planting garlic and digging potatoes. Our company always volunteers to help out on the farm. Our meals will be homegrown and homemade.  Pumpkin pie will be a featured dessert.  Planning […]

Stuff that squash

If you stuff a butternut squash with chopped apples, walnuts, cinnamon, butter,  honey, and bake it in the oven,  it becomes amazingly YUMMY!

Great Recipes

There are some great recipes for Pumpkin soup on the internet. We have so many pumpkins this year, that I am looking for creative and yummy ways to fix them. The soup is easy, delicious, and freezes well.  I will make  a gallon at a time. Bob would rather have pumpkin pie, draped with whipped […]

Grape Juice

Today, I will be canning grape juice.  My hands will be busy. My heart will be somewhere else. Today, I will be praying. I do not like what is happening in the world right now. It seems to me to be like a very large pot of hot water about to boil over. My sympathy […]

It Feels Like Fall

The leaves are turning, the wind is blowing, the kraut is krauting, the sauce is saucing and I love fall! The big orange pumpkins have been hauled in from the garden and tomorrow we pick grapes.  It feels good outside. Time to get out the sweat shirts and hoodies.

My creative cooking juices are flowing. Today, I made a kettle of vegetable soup. We will have it for supper and I will put […]

John’s Christmas Peppers

My son John loves hot, Jalapeno peppers, canned in my famous pickling sauce.  I usually give him some for Christmas. This year, I have added something different. In each jar, besides the Jalapeno peppers, are garlic buds and  red cayenne peppers. There is a new blend of pickling spices which will remain my secret.  Turmeric […]

Basil Pesto

The first batch of Basil pesto is in process. Fresh cut basil, olive oil, Parmesan cheese, salt, pepper, and walnuts are all laid out on the counter. The blender is plugged in. Wishing my friend from Texas was here to help. We had a good old time making pesto some years ago. The extra hands […]
