Sheep By-Product

Our sheep” by product” makes incredible compost. People were here last week to load up a trailer full of the “black gold”. Another friend will get hers toward the end of the week. The shed on the end of the red barn is where most of the sheep hang out. As a result, it is rich in “by product”. Folks pull up to the shed and load up the truck or trailer. It helps if they bring their own pitchfork. We schedule the pick up time by appointment only. Bob and I both have to be home. It can get complicated with the Big Dogs running loose in the pasture.

In Texas, I used to take my sons out to a friends ranch. We gathered cow” by product” that had dried in the hot sun. It was loaded in garbage pails and hauled back to the city in the old green van. It was at then that I learned about the value of good compost. We had a small back yard garden, but it produced grand harvests. Compost is a beautiful thing.
