Company

I am getting ready for company this week end. My farm helper is mowing the grass, the house is clean, and menus have been planned. All this is good. However, one of our female Great Pyrenees is looking ready to have her puppies. She is big, really big! Her spouts are filling up and all she does is sleep and eat. The whelping box for this event is in the basement.

On past occasions, we have had to adjust to having dinner while the Mother dog is having her pups. We deal with it. We take turns sitting with the Mom and eating dinner.  I am not  sure how our company will react if our blessed event arrives during dinner. Our lambs are due too, but at least they will be born in the barn and not the basement.   Our country life style is best described as “earthy”.

Big dogs, having puppies, can be “smelly”.  Bob said to boil some cinnamon sticks on the stove and no one will notice. I am not so sure.  Nevertheless, I look forward to visiting with my company.   Did I mention that these are city folks? Smile.
