Surival techniques
This winter in Minnesota is a BEAR, No doubt about it! Each day, I can make a choice. When the snow comes in a fury, I can make snow angels or shovel. My preference are angels. My plan for surviving today is in full swing.#1 Dinner will be hot, spicy, Indian food. It really helps with the warm up. Lots of peppers, turmeric, garlic, cinnamon, cumin, and ginger are incorporated, along with the rice and vegetables.#2 Seeds will be planted under the grow lights. Right now, they are covered up with potting soil. However, I can imagine them growing tall and green.#3 The refrig will be cleaned out. I will get it over with and consider myself awesome for the effort.#4 I will walk for two miles in the living room with an exercise video. It goes for five miles, but two is my speed. It will take about half an hour. My exercise attitude toward winter is “Ha! You did not make me fat and flabby because I had to stay inside”.#5 I will pray for several friends who need it. One good thing about winter is that I have more time to pray.
Tonight, just before sleep, I will smile at another day of winter and declare myself the winner!

Contend!
To successfully contend with this fearsome Minnesota winter, I recommend the following. I triumphed yesterday, by doing the following.
My day began with Psalms and singing. It continued with a cute, short, haircut and a pedicure. Some necessary housecleaning was accomplished. Bob brought home a pile of videos. They were three for $5.00 from Wal mart. Watching new videos, wrapped in a sheep wool comforter, with a poodle on my lap, was shear bliss! Victory over the ” winter monster” was mine.
The Minnesota winters are a daily struggle for me. However, I am becoming more and more creative in survival techniques. Today, I continue to CONTEND!

Goodie
The oregano and the thyme seeds have germinated. You have no idea how happy this makes me. It was seventeen below zero on the back porch this morning. The baby plants bring me HOPE that this frozen winter will eventually be overcome by Spring.

Basil
My Basil will be chopped and stirred into yummy Spaghetti sauce. It will simmer in the Thia curry. It will decorate fresh, green, salads. Some of it will be made into delicious Pesto. However, all that is awhile away. For now, my Basil is tiny seed being pressed into potting soil. It will germinate, sprout, and grow until it gets planted in the Herb garden this Spring. Sometimes it is good to see things as they will be, not what they are. People are like that too. I learn a lot from my garden.

High Wind
There are 50 miles per hour high winds today. I should probably tie a rope around the Poodle to keep him from blowing away when he goes out . Or—-I could fly him like a kite!

Games
I planted Oregano, Thyme, and Italian Parsley under the grow lights. My garden seeds are spread out all over the kitchen table. Planting seeds is great therapy for Minnesota winters. Let the games begin!!!

Observation
The Bible teaches us to be fruitful, not busy. There is a huge difference. Pause and consider.
