Jalapeno Corn Bread

Plain Corn bread is boring. My Jalapeno Corn bread with chopped Jalapenos, real corn, chopped onions, and gluten free corn meal is a beautiful thing, especially when served dripping with butter and honey!

Bad Rooster Dead!

The bad rooster attacked my poodle and pounced on him. I told Bob.  Bob shot the rooster. The rooster is dead. There is a lesson in this. Never, no never, mess with me or my poodle!! Have a nice day.

Herb Harvest Today

Today I am harvesting the rest of my herbs. They have come full circle. Sage, Basil, Oregano, Parsley, Thyme will be cut, tied in big bunches and hung in the kitchen. The herbs will dry nicely, and the kitchen will smell wonderful.  This whole process  just blessed me. It is basic and beautiful.  I am grateful to the Lord of the harvest.

Homemade Soap

Homemade Soap is available from Milk and Honey farm as of October 15th. I am usually sold out way before Christmas so I will be giving my face book friends a “heads up” on new varieties.

For example, there is my all time favorite soap “Mother Nature”. It has essential oils of Lemongrass, Cinnamon Leaf, Cedarwood, Patchouli, Sweet Orange and Vanilla. Another new soap this year will be “Orange Spice”. It is a blend of Sweet Orange and Cinnamon Leaf . You can check out the soap on my Country Store page of the web site. (www.milkandhoneyFarm.com). There is  a good article and information about soap making.

The Big Storm

None of our dogs were in the kennel when the tree came down. I am so grateful to the Lord who protects. We will need to replace two side panels, the gate, and the dog house. The tree missed Bob’s new lawn tractor, the back porch and the grill. What a blessing!

Bad Rooster

There is a Barred Rock rooster who is destined for the cook pot. He attacked Pilgrim ( my poodle) this morning. This afternoon, when I went out  to get the eggs, he attacked me. Big mistake! I got the hoe with the pointed end and fought back. He  pecked and clawed the hoe. He would jump into the air and pounce on it, trying to get to me.  He never made it, but it was close. I won and got my eggs. He ran.

It is too bad he is so mean. He is  a good looking rooster and all the hens love him. I will be scheduling his execution tomorrow. It is not smart to mess with me! He will be good in soup with some home made noodles.

Burners Needed

I need more burners on my stove top! There are only four and that is NOT near enough this time of year. Right now, one burner has a pot of bean soup, one burner is bubbling away with pickled Jalapeno peppers being canned, and two burners contain tomato sauce. There is another five gallon bucket of tomatoes to turn into sauce and no burners to cook them. The oven is baking Jalapeno corn bread to go with the bean soup for dinner so I can’t cook down the tomatoes in the oven. I tried to make tomato sauce in my crock pot and let it cook all night. It did not work. The sauce is runny.

Maybe someday, my old country kitchen will be blessed with a six burner stove top. New cupboards would be nice too. The kitchen really needs more counter space with lots of room to slice and dice. Meanwhile, until that dream becomes a reality, I will keep on keeping on, and on and on and on!!!
