The Cat, Continued —
My adventure with the huge Tom cat continues as he and I adjust to each other. He is assigned the rodent patrol in the basement. What is interesting is that our indoor Great Pyrenees and the Cat get along just fine. They ignore each other. However, Pilgrim, the poodle, does not like the cat and the cat returns the feeling. Pilgrim barks and attacks, whenever the cat tries to come upstairs into the kitchen. Cat runs back into the basement and Pilgrim walks away looking smug. Did I mention that the cat is bigger than the poodle? Currently, they have reached a truce. Pilgrim stays out of the basement and the cat does not try for the kitchen. All is well at the farm house, and peace reigns. To be continued—

Washington
Seems to me that a lot being spoken in Washington is “all hat and no cattle”. I live in Minnesota, but came up from Texas.

When All Else Fails — Get A Cat!
We tried traps. We tried bait. Yet, the rodent problem in the basement of the old farm house has continued.  The current issue seems to be Pocket gophers. It, or they, spring the mouse traps and the rap traps. They make noise in the basement and leave big poops in corners. When all else failed, we got a cat. He is a huge long haired Tom Cat. His current domain is the basement, where he is careful to use his litter box. Cat has been here for three days and I have not seen or heard signs of the rodent population.
Time will tell if he is the solution. So far, so good. He likes to sit on my lap and prrrrrr so we will be friends. Pilgrim, the poodle, has not met the cat. However, he does know that I smell like there has been a cat on my lap. I named the cat “Genghis”. It seems to be an appropriate name for a regal killer cat. To be continued—

Thai Curry and Pizza
Bob took over the kitchen last week end. He made a delicious Thai curry on Saturday and a yummy Pizza on Sunday. His recipes are secret but some of the ingredients in the Pizza included homemade tomato sauce, onions, garlic, candied Jalapeno peppers, red and yellow sweet bell peppers, mushrooms, and ground lamb meat. He used dried basil and oregano and even made the crust! It was so good, really, really good!! Thank you, Bob. I appreciate you.

Weapons Against Winter
My arsenal of “Weapons Against Winter” is growing. Today, I wage war with a big pot of hot chili and Jalapeno Corn bread. Minnesota winter will not defeat me. The line is drawn in the sand, or should I say snow. It doesn’t matter how cold and miserable it is, when my kitchen is filled with wonderful aromas of homegrown and home made. Today’s battle is won!!!

You don’t want to Know
My weather guy says temps tonight will be wind chill from minus 35 to minus 45 degrees. What a transplanted Texas lady thinks about all this, you do NOT want to know! I do not have proper words to relate! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Kitchen conversion
My kitchen is being converted into a growing center. Bob is hanging up grow lights and I am planting herbs. Culinary herbs, medicinal herbs, herbs, herbs, and more herbs. Packets of organic, non GMO, herb seeds are spread out on the kitchen table. Pilgrim, the poodle, is underfoot. Jesse, the Great Pyrenees, is watching with interest. It is minus 20 degrees, ice and snow are all over the place. Planting herbs is one of the activities that helps me survive the Minnesota winters. The company of my dogs, and herb seeds to plant in the kitchen, make it possible. Let the games begin!!

Need Direction for the New Year??
Trust in the lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all you ways acknowledge Him and he will direct you paths.
