Rhubarb

Sometime today, I will do the first cutting on my rhubarb plants.  This will  translate into Rhubarb pie, Rhubarb crisp, Rhubarb sauce, or Rhubarb jam.  Bob would vote for the Rhubarb crisp.  Yum!

Playing In The Dirt

This morning, I began to work on the individual plant trays for the orders all ready called in.  It involves sorting and labeling and putting each person’s name on their plant order. (Heirloom tomatoes, peppers, and herbs)  This will save all of  us some time when the plants are picked up. Their trays will be […]

Square Foot Gardening

Bob is mixing the “soil” blend for our square foot garden boxes.  He will use 1/3 Peat Moss, 1/3 Pearlite, and 1/3 of our own composted materials.  While we have a 10,000 square foot main garden, we enjoy planting the square foot gardens with herbs, flowers, and vegetables.  The harvest is amazing. Each garden is […]

Greenhouse News

There was good company in the green house this morning. One poodle and two cats kept me company while I was transplanting  the set outs. This year, there will be many varieties of heirloom tomatoes available. (Brandywine, Amish paste, Italian paste, Roma, Italian Beefsteak, grape, cherry and more) Since tomatoes companion well with Basil, I […]

Tomatoes

Germination of my heirloom tomatoes seeds is fantastic! (almost 100%) Today, I will transplant the young tomato plants into larger pots.  By the time I am ready to plant them in the main garden, they will have developed large root balls. This is necessary to pull up the nutrients needed to  produce big, beautiful, tomatoes.  […]
