Three more lambs

So far this morning, three more lambs have arrived. There is a set of twin ewes and one ram lamb. The lamb born yesterday is a ram. I sit in my old lawn chair and hold him. Baby lambs are fun to cuddle. His Mom munches on her ration of corn and ignores me.  For the moment, it is quiet in the barn.

Lamb Progress

Any minute now, the lambing could begin. I will be checking the barn every two hours. The Mother sheep have fresh straw, water and hay. Some of the ewes are “bagging up” and they will be the first to be put into the jugs to await their babies.   I received my first deposits on the new lambs today. We should have 20 -30 Polypay lambs for sale this year.

Bob needs to buy some more hay. We are running low. The snow has finally melted. That means the green grass will be showing up soon. The sheep will be happy, happy, happy! (me too)

Attention CFNI Alumni

Attention CFNI Alumni — Dr. Jack and Rev Alta Hatcher are coming to Minnesota to do a family seminar. It will be held at Resurrection Life Church in Eden Prairie MN. April 11 at 7:PM and April 12 at 9AM -4PM.  They will also be speaking at Our Fathers Promise at the New Life Assembly Church in Cokato, MN. on April 14th at 7PM. These meetings are open to the public and will address singles and married couples.

If you were ever in one of their classes at Christ for the Nations, you know how good this is going to be.  What is really special for me, is that I get to host them . They will be staying with us at Milk and Honey Farm on Sunday and Monday. What they don’t know yet, we will be in the middle of lambing season!

Mud Room

I am  suspicious of any person who has a spotless mud room! Our mud room has dog tracks, Bob’s barn boots, my egg basket, old newspapers, a cardboard box filled with canning jars, a full trash can, and mud!  It is the real deal!

Welcome Robin

I just saw my first Robin of the season. Wondering if he knows that there are 8-12 inches of snow predicted. I hope he finds shelter from the  approaching storm. He looks like a survivor. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be in Minnesota this time of year.  The first robin always makes me smile. Robins announce the start of a new season.  They are especially welcome this year. Smiling now.

How to fix Kale

Steam one bunch of  chopped  Kale,  for about 12 minutes. Meanwhile, saute 3 cloves of chopped garlic  in two tablespoons of coconut oil. Add 2 Tablespoons of Balsamic Vinegar and stir. Add 1teaspoon salt and 1/2 teaspoon of pepper. Toss the garlic mixture on top of the Kale after it is done steaming. (you can also saute a cup of mushrooms with the garlic mix)

This is my favorite way to fix “green things”.  I prepare Collard greens, Swiss chard, and Spinach the same way. We grow all these beautiful veggies in our main garden.  They are so good and good for you. Enjoy!

The Egg

It is easier to criticize an egg than it is to lay one!

Rounding Up the Sheep

Tomorrow, we are shearing our sheep. Today, we are “rounding up” the pregnant ewes. They will be kept in the sheep shed overnight. The  Bob has to take the van and go get two rams that have wintered at a friends place. When you load two big Rams in the back of a van, you know you live in the country.   You think?
