Josie
Our sweet Josie is gone. She passed away last night. Of all our Great Pyrenees, she was the sweetest and most gentle. When my grandson, Michael, who has Downs Syndrome, was afraid of dogs, it was Josie who taught him to trust. I will always remember walking with Michael and with Josie on the lead in front of our house. She seemed to sense when someone was fragile.
Josie was one of the “GrandPyrs”. The grand dog of four of our original Great Pyrenees. She was a tender Mother to her puppies and guardian for our lambs. I am thankful that she lived with us on Milk and Honey Farm and fulfilled her role as guardian and friend. She will rest in the pasture behind the house with the rest of our good dogs who have left us. She will meet Boomer, Honey Bear, Molly, Baron, Ginger, Kodi, Shiloh, and Bella. My heart hurts and tears will come.

Tired
I am tired of seeing posts about Bruce Jenner on my face book. I am tired of posts about Josh Dugger’s mistakes of the past. If folks would stop the chatter, this stuff could, and should, fade into oblivion. Give it a rest, people, just give it a rest!

Winding down
We are winding down — slightly. All ten ewes and 20 new lambs are finally eating grass outside the barn. The main garden has been planted. (10,000 square feet) and the grass got mowed this morning. Windows on the old farm house are washed and we can see out! I still have basic clean up to do and the next step is to get social. We love to have visits with friends and family. I have started planning some “gatherings”–these will be food and fun and singing around a camp fire. Then there are the work parties. We always welcome volunteer workers in the summer..mostly to pull weeds and help with picking. The first major pick and processing will be with the strawberries. Next in line, come the cabbages to make into Kraut. I used to have fancy parties. That has changed into Kraut parties, picking parties, processing parties, and weeding parties. We do a lot of “show and tell” about the garden. It is my Happy place!

Bottle Babies
Three of my baby lambs are a little slower growing that the others. This often happens with multiple births. So–I get to fill up baby bottles with a lamb milk replacer and bottle feed the babies. There is something very special about holding a baby lamb on my lap and giving it a bottle. Going out there now. Smiling.

Lamb Lambs and more Lambs
Our lambing season is officially over. We ended on a high note and had two sets of triplet lambs this morning. Our final total from ten Mother sheep, is 20 lambs born. This is a huge blessing–the Moms and babies are doing good. Our Polypay sheep often have multiple births –lots of twins and occasionally triplets. As of today, my activities have shifted into greenhouse and garden. Folks will be picking up the veggie and herb plants that I sell every year and I will be planting planting and planting. I could use some help with this. My best planting helper moved to Arizona. (she is fun to visit in the winter.) I am grateful for the opportunity to live in the country and to do the plant and animal projects. I am most grateful to The Lord of the Harvest who has made this possible. Jesus is Lord!
