Bad Rooster

I left the front kennel gate open this morning when I took the big girls for a walk. When we got home, the rooster and one of his hens were busily eating the dog food in the kennel.  Not good. It took a while, but after circling the dog house and yelling a lot, I finally chased the rooster and his hen out of the kennel.  He left me his “calling card’  several times. Bad Rooster! Bad Rooster! Bad Rooster!

Flying

Early morning walks are a wonderful thing. It is quiet and still. Each day, I see new things.  This morning, there was a family of barn swallows swooping and diving off of the roof. They are fun to watch. The adults glide smoothly, effortlessly. The young ones frantically flap their wings, struggling to stay in the air. They will learn in time to ride the wind currents and soar high up.

Sometime, baby Christians are like those baby birds. They struggle and flap. In time, they will learn to trust and soar. There is a purpose for the struggle and flapping. It makes for strong wings. The little birds will grow strong like their parents. Baby Christians will mature and fly high. Some flapping is necessary.  Don’t judge them, help them learn to fly.

Plums

Our little plum tree is doing an outstanding job of providing us with big, fat, delicious plums. Plum jam is our favorite–on a hot biscuit right  from the oven. Life is good.

Blessed Be

“Blessed be the Name of the Lord. Blessed be the Name of the Lord. He gives and takes away. He gives and takes away.

Blessed be the Name of the Lord.”

I am singing today.

Great Pyreenes Update

Tesse was Baron’s companion in front of the house. For years, they ran together, napped together, and were best buddies. Baron died under one of the big cedar trees.  Tess has been sleeping right on the spot where he died. Her big eyes look so sad.

Tomorrow, I will take her to the groomer. She will get a serious bath, brush, and comb out. Maybe that will make her feel better. Today, I fixed her a sheep burger. She did perk up at that.

I know that dogs do grieve.  They  seem to know that their old friend is gone. They seem subdued and sad. This will pass, but now it is hard to watch. I miss Baron, we all do.

Baron

Baron died this morning. He was the only Pyr that ever pulled me in the cart. Baron has faithfully watched over and protected the front yard. He was gentle, kind, and alert, always there when I needed him. I believe he is off running around with Molly, his best Pyr girl friend. She was his constant companion in front of the house. She passed away several years ago. Baron is romping with his old Milk and Honey Farm guardians Boomer, Honey Bear, Kodi, Shiloh, Molly and Bella. He will like seeing all his old friends. I know it was his season to pass on, but I will miss him. I am thankful for the time that he was here. It really hurts right now.

Happiness is

Happiness is a big bunch of straw flowers. Happiness is  bunches of basil, oregano, and dill. Happiness is red yarn to tie them together. Happiness is kitchen pegs to hang them on. Happiness is the time to do this. (smile)

Cucumbers

I found a great recipe for cucumber soup on line. It comes from “Eating Well” web site. It has some of my favorite things like chicken broth, garlic, onions, tomatoes and lots of cucumbers. To make it creamy , it calls for an avocado and yogurt. This soup can be served hot or cold.  The plan is to make a batch and freeze some for later.  My cucumber crop tops the charts. The soup will help solve the “what to do with all the cucumbers question”.  Yum!
