Lent
I plan to do a lot of praying during this season of Lent. It begins today on Ash Wednesday.
My prayer for me is Psalm 19:14. “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my redeemer.”

Heirloom Seeds
I plant heirloom seeds. In 2006, I saved Brandywine tomato seeds. It is 2012, and my Brandywine seeds are coming up under the grow lights in the basement. I save the best seed from the strongest plants. It pays off. All the vegetables planted at Milk and Honey farm are planted from Heirloom seeds. The plague of GMO seed has invaded the country. We can do something about this. It starts at home.

Observation
Kids that grow broccoli, EAT Broccoli. I believe that if more parents would grow vegetables, more kids would eat vegetables. Children like to play in mud. Gardens are mud. With a small amount of training, children can learn the happy delight of eating what they grow. This makes sense to me.

Seeds
Seeds, seeds, beautiful seeds! Bob built up more grow lights in the basement. Now I have room for more planting. Germination is going very well. My first Amish tomato plant was discovered on Saturday. In another couple of weeks, I will begin to spray the baby plants with a spray made from rotten fish and kelp.
Today, I will “sing the song of seeds” and enjoy the planting.
Genesis 8:22Â “While the earth remains, seed time and harvest, cold and heat, winter and summer, and day and night shall not cease.”

Two Puppies going to Nebraska
These Great Pyrenees puppies are traveling to Nebraska. They are going to be guardians. Their parents, Sunday and Boaz, are guards and their Grandparents, Asher and Jesse, are guards. The pups will “take care of business” for their new family. No worries with the Pyrs on patrol.

The City
We spent the day in Minneapolis. We shopped for spices at an Indian market, bought a case of Japanese tea at a Japanese market, bought Red Snapper at a fish market, and Protein powder and sheep cheese at Whole Foods market. We had Thai food for lunch and brought some home for supper. We bought potting soil from a nursery supply house.
Bob is asleep in his favorite chair. We are worn out.
The trip to the cities is fun about every six months. We load up on supplies that we don’t produce on Milk and Honey Farm. However, I am soooo glad that we don’t live there. Big cities are crowded and dirty. The pace is fast and frantic. The people all look angry. It is so good to be home.
I am blessed to be living in the country and very grateful!

Spring
My animals think it is Spring. The chickens are out of the hen house and roaming around in back. The Mother bunny is in her box, building a nest out of straw. One of the barn cats looks pregnant. The sheep are wide in the middle and eating a lot.  One of the big dogs is rolling in the grass. The Poodle doesn’t want to come in when I call him.
Today, was a brief look at things to come. It is suppose to snow tonight.

Planting
The serious planting of heirloom seeds has begun. Bob has the new bulbs installed in the grow lights and is filling up trays of potting soil. My kitchen has turned into a planting station. There are trays of soil on the floor, containers of seeds on the counters, watering cans, plant markers, and towels to sop up the mess. The planted trays will be taken to the basement and placed under the grow lights.
The perennial herbs that I planted several weeks ago are up. The Mammoth Basils are poking up toward the grow lights. All the green things have sprouted and we will be picking our own lettuce for salad in a few weeks. This morning I started planting the tomatoes. (Brandy wine, Italian Paste, Amish paste, Italian Beef Steak, grape, cherry, Roma, Delicious, etc. etc. ) We use lots of tomatoes and I always plant extra to sell.
Dinner tonight is Spaghetti made with last years tomatoes, peppers, and herbs. (basil and oregano) I will add some ground meat, mushrooms, and top it with home made Pesto.
My days are full of puppies and plants. I still can’t decide which I like best.
