Homemade Soap
The new batch of homemade soap is ready to go. My favorite for summer is Eucalyptus and Mint. It contains olive oil, coconut oil, palm oil, shea and cocoa butter, eucalyptus, peppermint and spearmint essential oils and organic peppermint leaves. It does great things for the skin!
There is info on the soaps on our web site on the Country Store page. (www.mmilkandhoneyfarm.com)

Company
I am getting ready for company this week end. My farm helper is mowing the grass, the house is clean, and menus have been planned. All this is good. However, one of our female Great Pyrenees is looking ready to have her puppies. She is big, really big! Her spouts are filling up and all she does is sleep and eat. The whelping box for this event is in the basement.
On past occasions, we have had to adjust to having dinner while the Mother dog is having her pups. We deal with it. We take turns sitting with the Mom and eating dinner. I am not sure how our company will react if our blessed event arrives during dinner. Our lambs are due too, but at least they will be born in the barn and not the basement.  Our country life style is best described as “earthy”.
Big dogs, having puppies, can be “smelly”. Bob said to boil some cinnamon sticks on the stove and no one will notice. I am not so sure. Nevertheless, I look forward to visiting with my company.  Did I mention that these are city folks? Smile.

Sheep By-Product
Our sheep” by product” makes incredible compost. People were here last week to load up a trailer full of the “black gold”. Another friend will get hers toward the end of the week. The shed on the end of the red barn is where most of the sheep hang out. As a result, it is rich in “by product”. Folks pull up to the shed and load up the truck or trailer. It helps if they bring their own pitchfork. We schedule the pick up time by appointment only. Bob and I both have to be home. It can get complicated with the Big Dogs running loose in the pasture.
In Texas, I used to take my sons out to a friends ranch. We gathered cow” by product” that had dried in the hot sun. It was loaded in garbage pails and hauled back to the city in the old green van. It was at then that I learned about the value of good compost. We had a small back yard garden, but it produced grand harvests. Compost is a beautiful thing.

Playing In The Dirt
This morning, I began to work on the individual plant trays for the orders all ready called in. It involves sorting and labeling and putting each person’s name on their plant order. (Heirloom tomatoes, peppers, and herbs) This will save all of us some time when the plants are picked up. Their trays will be ready to go.
I need to sort out my own trays before I fill any more orders. Then the nest step, is to get trays ready to sell at the Health Food Store. (Dan and Becky’s Market, Cokato, Mn.)
My fingernails are dirty, my hair is a mess, and my shirt is streaked with mud. Oh the Joys of playing in the dirt!

Herbs
On April 13th, our local health food store will begin to sell a limited number of my tomato, pepper, and herb plants. ( Dan and Becky’s Market in Cokato, MN.) The plants have been grown from heirloom seeds and are looking real good. This morning, I have been assembling plant trays with Basil, Oregano, Parsley, Thyme, and Chives. In addition, there will be trays of heirloom tomatoes and pepper plants. They are in 4×4 inch pots and will do well in a sunny window until it is time to plant them outside.
Some friends and neighbors pick up their plants at the farm. You can reserve your plants by calling or sending an e mail. All our garden info is on the web site Garden page. (www.milkandhoneyfarm.com)

Country Living
Our lawn mower is broken. The grass needs cutting. Solution….Bob moved the sheep from the back pasture into the front yard. They are happily mowing down the nice green grass. One neat thing about this country living is learning to IMPROVISE!

Walking
It is a parade. The chubby poodle is out in front. The pregnant Great Pyrenees is by my left side, and bringing up the rear is Jesse. (Great Pyrenees) I am some where in the middle. Travel time will be about 45 minutes and distance about three miles. After several weeks of this, some good things will begin to happen. The poodle will be tight and trim, the puppies will be born strong and happy, and I will have shed the extra “winter weight.”
Game on!!!
